How this estimate works
Total cost = purchase price − final resale value + sales tax + purchase fees + interest paid during ownership + fuel/charging + insurance + maintenance + registration + parking.
Financing uses a fixed-rate, monthly amortizing loan. Taxes and purchase fees are included in the amount financed after your down payment. Principal repayments are not added again: the purchase price already counts the car’s cost. Any remaining loan balance must be settled when selling.
Annual running-cost increases compound from year two. Monthly ownership cost averages total cost, including depreciation; it is not your monthly bill. Loan payment plus first-year running costs is shown separately for budgeting.
Resale, repairs, rates and fuel prices are your assumptions. Leasing, tax credits, trade-in tax adjustments, investment opportunity costs and major unexpected repairs are not modeled. Enter dealer taxes/fees and your actual insurance quotes for a closer estimate.
